Apple Unveils MacBook Air with M4 Chip

Apple Launches M4 MacBook Air: A Subtle but Significant Upgrade

Apple announced the M4 MacBook Air on March 5, 2025, refining its popular ultra-portable laptop. The updated models retain the slim design, add a Sky Blue color option, and improve the webcam with Center Stage.

Pricing starts at ¥164,800 in Japan (13-inch, 256GB), with pre-orders open and shipping beginning March 12. The M4 MacBook Air comes in 13-inch and 15-inch sizes, with color options including Sky Blue, Midnight, Starlight, and Silver (Space Gray is discontinued).

The M4 chip enables support for dual external displays (up to 6K, lid closed) and increases maximum memory to 32GB (up from 24GB). However, battery life remains at the same 18-hour rating as the previous generation.

Apple has discontinued the M2 and M3 MacBook Air models, though refurbished M3 versions are available.

The M4 MacBook Air offers a sensible evolution, with performance boosts and feature enhancements that improve the user experience without drastically changing the successful formula. While not a must-have upgrade for M3 owners, it's a compelling option for those with older models or new to Macs. The improved webcam, expanded memory options, and processing power, make the most versatile and portable form factor more powerful.
